Tellurico
Eindhoven, The Netherlands
After graduating with the Master of Contextual Design at the Design Academy of Eindhoven, in 2017 Francesco Pace founded Tellurico, a multidisciplinary design studio specialising in objects, spaces and installations design.
The investigation of alternative solutions through the study of folklore, together with the relationship between crafts and the environment has been the centre of Tellurico’s practice.
The context in which a project is born has been the primary focus of these years’ research. What binds the objects of a place to the characteristic of the place itself intertwines the historical, geological and social aspects of humankind, as well as the uniqueness and simplicity of everyday life. It is an always expanding field of investigation, as endless are the ways to live.
In 2020 Tellurico has been nominated by Platform Magazine among the Best Italian Designers. In 2021 Tellurico won the prestigious Officine Saffi Awards with his project Telluride.
Ollain - Tellurico
‘’Ollain’’ is the last collection of Tellurico Design Studio. The first part of the series is launched in November 2020 and it is composed of three sides tables: S, M and L.
This one is ‘’M-Side Table’’ realised by Tellurico throughout the re-interpretation of the Italian Craft called ‘’Stucco’’. The side-table has a contemporary design aesthetic and the main material is a mixture of Jesmonite, recycled processing waste and a natural Dark Green pigment, coated with a transparent sealer.
The side table is a functional sculpture ideal for a contemporary design house.
A chair for Ursula - Tellurico
In April 2020 the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, met the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Upon entering the meeting room it was revealed only two chairs had been set out for the three of them.
Charles Michel seated himself in the chair beside Erdogan, leaving Von der Leyen seemingly surprised. No Chair was prepared for the woman holding the highest-ranking position in the European Union. After that, she was offered to take a seat on a sofa in the same room, across from the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Çavusoglu.
Representatives of the EU were sent to inspect the location ahead of the meeting, however, access to the meeting room was denied because it was deemed too close to the President’s Office.
Ankara sustained that protocol was respected when the EU commission asked about the incident; however, the fact remains, that there was no chair for Ursula.
Only a few weeks before the incident Turkey withdraws from the Istanbul Convention.
